A Lost World in Horton Kirby

Last Wednesday Year Three took a trip to Horton Kirby. As part of our Science topic, Rocks and Fossils, the class became petrologists (people who study rocks and the conditions under which they form) for the day, digging and experimenting with rocks, soils and fossils.

We studied and learnt about the different uses for rocks and how soils are made and change colour, depending on what part of the country they come from. The children were also able to collect some soil, mix it with water and create paintings with the solution.

It was a messy job but we really enjoyed our day out and acquired a lot of new information to bring back to our lessons
