Pupils are allocated into houses for their Physical Education

As with our academic work, the school places emphasis on children’s enjoyment and participation in a wide range of physical activities. Specialist coaches are used to help children develop the skills necessary for sporting success – sport is an integral part of school life.

We believe it to be important that emphasis is placed not merely on the training of the natural athlete but that every effort is made to help the less skilful enjoy taking a full part in sporting activities. Boys and girls take part in all sports in equal measure. The children are also encouraged to lead healthy, active lives on and off the sporting field for example all snacks and lunches are healthy foods.

In Key Stage 1 (ages 4-7) P.E. includes dance, gym, games, and swimming. In Key Stage 2 (ages 7-11) PE includes games, dance, gym, athletics, swimming and adventure activities. Regular courses involving stays at field study centres are available for Junior pupils which include hiking, archery, climbing, orienteering, and the development of leadership and teamwork. A Swimming Gala and Sports Day are also regular events on the school year calendar, as are competitive matches against other local schools.
